KUALA LUMPUR, March 26, 2015:
A Malaysian dentist bagged five gold medals at the 17th annual convocation of the Rajiv Gandhi University of Health Sciences (RGUHS) held in Bengaluru (Banglore).
Dr Roger Lau Sie Long, won five gold medals, including one for being the overall topper in the bachelor in dental surgery course (BDS).
Dr Lau spoke to the Indian press, saying, “I came to India as I wanted to study abroad and experience another country and culture.”
“I took back some dry fruits and avalakki, I will miss the food and lifestyle here, especially in Davangere,” he was reported as saying.
Commenting on the time he had spent in India, Dr Lau said he had managed to pick up the local language as he needed to learn the basics to converse with patients.
Dr Lau, the second doctor in the family after his brother, is now back in Malaysia to serve for two years, a requirement before he can pursue postgraduate studies.
It was earlier reported by Bernama that Public Service Department (JPA) scholars like Dr Lau who studied dentistry in India, continued to excel in their field by graduating with flying colours and winning awards.
Lau, 24, from Sarikei, Sarawak previously received the “Best Outgoing Student of 2013″ by two academies namely, International College of Dentists (India, Sri Lanka and Nepal section) and Pierre Fauchard Academy.
