mppp towingGEORGE TOWN: An electrical goods dealer who got angry when his car was towed by enforcement officials from the Penang Municipal Council (MPPP), hit one of the officials, injuring him.
The incident occurred at Lebuh Chulia here at 11.50am yesterday.
Northeast district Police chief, ACP Mior Faridalathrash Wahid, said the 59-year-old victim who is the MPPP truck driver, together with two other officials were towing the car belonging to a 35-year-old man who had parked in the bus stop route.
“At the time the victim was in the driver’s seat, the owner of the car is alleged to have opened the door of the truck and seized the vehicle’s keys before punching the victim’s face repeatedly,” he said in a statement here yesterday.
He said the victim also punched the suspect causing the suspect to fall on the road. Mior Faridalathrash said the car owner then made a report saying he was beaten by three MPPP employees.
Police recorded statements from both men involved and detained the owner of the car for further investigations.
