PARANOIA OVER ROSMAH WEDDING GALA: Tian arrested, Rafizi & Hisham Rais under 3-day remand
PKR vice-president Chua Tian Chang is the latest opposition leader to be arrested ahead of a street demonstration planned in Kuala Lumpur this afternoon by the #KitaLawan movement, while party secretary-general Rafizi Ramli, who was arrested yesterday, has been remanded for three days.
Activist Hishamuddin Rais, who was arrested last night, will also be remanded for three days, PKR communications director Fahmi Fadzil said today.
Tian Chua, as he is also known, was arrested after emerging from a town hall meeting with his constituents in Batu, Kuala Lumpur.
He tweeted his own arrest, saying that 20 police officers had come for him at the Kampung Batu Muda community hall, where he had just finished a public dialogue together with the mayor of Kuala Lumpur and Federal Territories Minister Datuk Seri Tengku Adnan Tengku Mansor.
Tian Chua was last night asked to turn himself in at the Dang Wangi police district headquarters and was reportedly there for a brief period.
Today, after the town hall meeting, he tweeted: "Sebilangan 20 anggota polis menahan saya di Dewan Komuniti Kg Batu Muda, sebaik saja saya keluar dari town hall meeting."
(Some 20 police officers have arrested me at the Kg Batu Muda community hall, as soon as I came out from the town hall meeting.)
He also tweeted that according to police, he was being taken to the police remand centre in Jinjang to wait for an investigating officer.
Tian Chua, who is the Batu MP, was to have led protesters marching from Dataran Merdeka at the #KitaLawan rally this afternoon.
Rafizi was arrested yesterday at his service centre in Kuala Lumpur under the Sedition Act over a statement he issued calling for full turnout at the #KitaLawan rally today.
The Pandan MP was to have led protesters at today's rally from Masjid Jamek to meet other groups of marchers coming from Dataran Merdeka and the PAS headquarters at the Sogo shopping complex.
Activist Hishamuddin was taken last night by men in plainclothes in a silver Honda Accord as he was making his way on foot to Dataran Merdeka for an anti-GST rally that was also part of the #KitaLawan agenda.
With Tian Chua's arrest, a total of 10 people have been arrested since Thursday night.
Police have declared today's rally illegal and warned that they will arrest protestors. – TMI
