Hadi, an incumbent, received 78 votes over the former party vice-president's 72 votes.
Ahmad's nomination was believed to have stemmed from internal problems that has created a rift between the conservatives and progressives in the party.
Yesterday, PAS's Kota Tinggi division nominated vice-president Datuk Husam Musa for the party presidency, just days after Tuan Ibrahim Tuan Man, who is party vice-president, rejected his own nomination and threw his support behind Hadi.
In the meeting, Shah Alam PAS also nominated Mohamad Sabu as the deputy president while Salahudin Ayub, Husam and Tuan Ibrahim were nominated for the three vice-president posts.
The meeting maintained status quo at the division level with Azli Yusof remaining as the division chief. The incumbent deputy chief Zulkefli Nani also managed to retain his post after defeating his opponent.
PAS will hold its party elections during its muktamar, or general assembly, this June in Shah Alam, against a backdrop of infighting and disputes over whether it should remain with the Pakatan Rakyat opposition coalition.
Grassroots leaders are searching for a new president who can unite the party, following criticism that Hadi was not acting as a president for all within PAS.
Three days ago, Hadi declared that his position was open to challenge, saying that it was allowed under the Islamist party's constitution.
