Subra: MIC can win seats with new party chiefs

Deputy president sets sights on Sungai Siput and Tapah parliamentary seats
dr s subramaniam mic logoIPOH: MIC deputy president Dr S. Subramaniam is confident that the party will be able to win at least two parliamentary and two state seats in Perak in the 14th general election if there is a change in the structure of the party’s leadership and administration.
“This is part of our agenda in efforts to transform MIC and bring the party to greater heights, which is to win the two parliamentary seats of Sungai Siput and Tapah, and at least two more seats in the Perak state assembly,” he told reporters after attending a gathering with party leaders and all MIC branch chairmen in the Ipoh Barat division here Saturday.
The MIC contested two parliamentary seats in the last general election which featured the party’s two vice-presidents. M. Saravanan won in Tapah, while SK Devamany failed to retake Sungai Siput seat, the seat formerly held by S. Samy Vellu when he was party president. He was defeated by Dr Devaraj Jayakumar of Parti Socialist Malaysia.
MIC also failed to wrestle back all the state seats it contested, namely Buntong, Jelapang and Hutan Melintang.
