To the silent majority – it’s time to speak up

This reader is appealing to the citizens of Malaysia who must speak up against the horrific injustices taking place right before their eyes.

it’s time to speak upI was reading an article today, and what it said kind of resonated with me, and I hope it resonates with a lot of others who read it as well.
It’s about speaking up when we see or hear about injustice. I am speaking or rather appealing to the silent majority out there, whose silence is deafening.
I am neither for nor against any political party, but am among those who wish for a good government, which I don’t think is a lot to ask for.
Corruption happens everywhere even in the most developed and evolved of nations, but not to the extent of the reported plundering that is going on in Malaysia, the scale of which sickens me, and I am sure the silent majority.
Among the ills that face our country at the moment:
NATIONAL DEBT – to even fathom that it has tripled in as many years is inconceivable and screams of mismanagement, and yet there is no ‘validated’ proof from the government if this is true or false.
RACIAL POLARISATION – looking back, we seem to be regressing as opposed to progressing as a multi-racial and multi-cultural nation. Sadly it’s a known fact that this is the work of the corrupt who want to divide and rule, and I know for a fact this sentiment is not shared by the silent majority out there.
THE ECONOMY – seems to be on autopilot with no one at the helm, and with real inflation much higher than the official statistics. Another being the implementation of a Goods and Services Tax on an economy that is currently ill-equipped to handle it from a financial as well as regulatory perspective.
ILLEGAL IMMIGRANTS – one of the brewing issues which has the potential to become a national problem, especially with the influx of foreigners into the country, and with our borders being so porous and manned by even more corrupt immigration officials. Ever wondered why all the local F&B and entertainment outlets are manned by foreigners, who only need to pay RM500 for a monthly exit pass, RM5k for a student pass and RM10k for a spousal visa?
EDUCATION SYSTEM – once ranked one of the best in Asia, we now seem to have sunk to the depths where we share a similar ranking to that of Third World countries. I just hope our leaders wake up and realise that this will be one of the cornerstones in shaping our nation’s future, and currently it is being used as a pawn by our politicians.
I do not think I need to go on, but how much more is it going to take before the rest of us stand up and say something, and by this I am not saying take to the streets. We all know what needs to be done, the thing is how many of us have the courage to do it? It’s something we should all ask ourselves.
