DAP's Petaling Jaya Utara MP Tony Pua got into trouble over a tweet he posted: "Bastards. Real bastards. Royal my foot" in response to Nurul Izzah's arrest.
Inspector-General of Police Tan Sri Khalid Abu Bakar, in his tweet, confirmed that police would call Pua up to explain the tweet and determine if he was trying to insult the Malay Rulers.
Pua has since deleted the Twitter post and replaced it with "Bastards. "Nurul Izzah arrested under Sedition Act".
The police here are officially known as the Royal Malaysian Police.
Nurul Izzah was arrested this afternoon at the Dang Wangi police station where she had gone to keep an appointment with the police for her statement to be taken over the #KitaLawan rally in Kuala Lumpur on March 7.
Police informed her at the station that she was being investigated under the Sedition Act, in relation to a speech she made in Parliament last week.
She was taken to the Jinjang remand centre at 6.45pm and will spend a night in the police lock up. Her remand hearing is expected to be held at 10am tomorrow.
In her speech in the Dewan Rakyat on March 10, Nurul Izzah had read out excerpts from a speech text by her father, Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim, as the opposition leader is currently in jail serving a five-year sentence for his sodomy conviction.
Nurul Izzah's reiterated Anwar's claim that the sodomy charges and trial were a political conspiracy, and also accused the judges of "bowing to political masters", also calling them "partners in a crime that contributed to the death of a free judiciary".
Two days after delivering her speech, former Perkasa vice-president Datuk Zulkifli Noordin lodged a police report against Nurul Izzah for sedition, saying the PKR vice-president had insulted the judiciary.
