A Penang PKR assemblyman whose state constituency is in Permatang Pauh has described the Prison Department's rejection of his application to visit jailed Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim on official matters as "unreasonable".
Seberang Jaya assemblyman Dr Afif Bahardin however said he would apply again for permission to visit Anwar.
He said his visit would be for business only, as he needed to discuss policy and allocation matters with Anwar, who is the Permatang Pauh MP.
"It is very disappointing because I need to see the MP of my state constituency to get his approval for matters like funding...my intention to see Anwar is to deal with such matters, which are in the interest of the Permatang Pauh people.
"I think this rejection is unreasonable. I respect the rules and procedures of the Prison Department. I am going to apply for permission to see Anwar again," he said today.
Dr Afif, who is also a Penang state executive councillor, said Anwar was still the MP of the constituency as long as the King had yet to decide on the pardon petition sent by his family, as provided under Article 48(4)(C) of the Federal Constitution.
Anwar is serving a five-year sentence in the Sungai Buloh prison after the Federal Court on February 10 found him guilty of sodomy.
