PKR's lone assemblyman in the Kelantan legislature today brushed off questions about his vote in support of hudud, the Islamic penal code, which is threatening to break up the opposition Pakatan Rakyat (PR) pact.
Ruslan Puteh, the Guchil assemblyman, said it was up to people to judge him for supporting the bill which was unanimously passed by the 45-seat legislative assembly this morning.
In the legislative chamber, Roslan was seen voting in support of the Kelantan Shariah Criminal Code Enactment II 1993 (Amendment 2015) after the speaker allowed time for any assemblyman to make objections.
"It's up to people's perception on what they want to think.
"My party told me not to make any comments," he told The Malaysian Insider at the state assembly in Kota Baru, Kelantan, today.
Asked for his personal views on whether hudud should be supported, Roslan said," It's all right, thank you".
In Kuala Lumpur, however, PKR secretary-general Rafizi Ramli who was attending Parliament, said the party had instructed Ruslan not to vote today.
"We had instructed our Adun not to be there and not to take part. He wasn't there yesterday but we are checking whether he's there today," Rafizi said. (Adun is the Malay acronym for assemblyman.)
