250,000 face water disruption following oil spill in Johor

Consumers are urged to save water whilst the plant undergoes processing to clean up the diesel oil spill in Sungai Johor
johor-water_600JOHOR BAHARU: About 250,000 consumers in several areas in Johor are facing water supply disruption following a diesel oil spill in Sungai Johor near Kota Tinggi, early this morning.
Syarikat Air Johor Holdings Sdn Bhd said the spill had caused water-processing plants to stop operations until the clean up efforts undertaken are completed, probably by this evening.
Areas that are experiencing water disruption are Johor Baharu, Nusajaya, Senai and a small part of Kulaijaya, Air Johor Holdings said on its website.
Sungai Johor is the main source of clean water supply for the Sungai Johor water treatment plant and Semanggar water treatment plant, each of which has a capacity of 318.23 million litres per day.
The Sungai Johor water treatment plant involves 150,000 user accounts while the Semanggar water treatment plant has 100,000 user accounts. Consumers are advised to store enough water and can contact the SAJ Info Centre (SAJiC) Hotline at 1800887474 or through the Short-Messaging Service (SMS) to 019-7727474 or via e-mail at customer.care@saj.com.my for emergency water supplies.
