ALL EYES ON ROMPIN: Dr M-Najib feud the center of attention

ALL EYES ON ROMPIN: Dr M-Najib feud the center of attention
BN will strongly emphasise on three main issues, which the opposition are expected to harp on to gain votes in the Rompin parliamentary by-election.
Umno information chief Ahmad Maslan said the issues involved are the implementation of the goods and services tax (GST), Felda and issues related to former prime minister Dr Mahathir Mohamad's criticisms against Najib Abdul Razak.
"GST issues will revolve around a hike in prices of goods, while on the issue of Dr Mahathir (below), we will explain without undermining Tun M (Dr Mahathir) because we respect him.
"On the Felda issue, we will touch on housing for the second generation ... It is important for us to highlight on this as almost half of the voters in Rompin are Felda settlers," he told reporters after attending a briefing at the Rompin Umno division office today.
Ahmad said to counter the opposition's propaganda during the by-election, Umno would hold briefings using three approaches, through afternoon chat programmes, group lectures and an inaugural lecture.
Information would also be channeled through the social media, distribution of pamphlets while all federal and state information committee members would be requested to be in Rompin, to start preparations early because the by-election is just around the corner, he added.
Over-confident
"We will organise information sessions to be held at all district polling centres (PDM). In Rompin, we have 38 PDM and in the last election, we were defeated at only one centre which was Bandar Kuala Rompin.
"However, it is important for us not to be over-confident. We need to work hard to ensure that the 15,114 vote majority obtained in the last general election is maintained, or the number increased," he said.
The Rompin by-election is being held following the death of incumbent Jamaluddin Jarjis on April 4, after a helicopter crash in Semenyih, Selangor.
In the 13th general election in 2013, Jamaluddin defeated former PAS women chief Nuridah Mohd Salleh to retain the seat for the sixth term.
The Election Commission (EC) has set April 22 for nomination, April 30 for early voting and May 5 as polling day. - Bernama
