An pro-Umno website identifies a 'Group of 5' working to bring down the PM.
PETALING JAYA: An pro-Umno website has alleged that there is a conspiracy at the top level of Umno Youth to bring down Prime Minister Najib Abdul Razak.
MyKMU.net, in an article billed as an “exclusive”, identified the conspirators as Umno Youth vice-president Khairul Azwan Harun, Umno Youth executive councillors Arman Azha Abu Hanifah, Syamsul Baharin Putra Ahmad Shibi and Sheikh Ahmad Nafiq Abdul Rahman, and Barisan Nasional Youth assistant secretary Mohamed Shafri Abdul Aziz. It refers to them as the “Group of 5”.
It said Khairul Azwan, at a meeting with Johor Umno Youth yesterday, called for opposition to Najib’s leadership and suggested that Umno Youth chief Khairy Jamaluddin lead that opposition. The meeting was held in Rompin.
“Azwan, who was supposed to be leading a discussion on the campaign strategy for the Rompin by-election, was more interested in speaking on the issue of Umno Youth’s support for the Prime Minister,” the article said, claiming that Azwan’s demeanour shocked those present at the meeting.
“According to sources,” it added, “Azwan told Johor Umno Youth that the movement’s support was for the office of the Umno President, not for Najib.
According to the article, Azwan reviewed the meeting Najib had with Umno Youth last week and said the Prime Minister failed to be convincing in his explanation of the controversies surrounding him.
“Azwan voiced the opinion that Najib should be ousted and that the person most qualified to lead the effort is the Umno Youth leader himself, Khairy Jamaluddin Abu Bakar,” the article said.
It said Azwan’s views were supported by the Umno Youth chiefs of Sri Gading, Simpang Renggam and Pulai.
However, it added, most of the Umno Youth divisional heads present at the meeting were against Azwan, the most vocal being those from Segamat, Johor Bahru, Muar, Bakri, Mersing and Gelang Patah
