KUALA LUMPUR - The Prisons Department yesterday denied that Parti Keadilan Rakyat (PKR) adviser Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim, now serving a prison sentence in Sungai Buloh, had given religious lectures and counselling sessions to inmates in the prison.
In a statement, the department said it had special officers or would invite qualified personalities to conduct counselling and spiritual programmes.
“It is not true at all because for security and health reasons Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim has been placed in an individual cell since he was imprisoned on Feb 10, 2015,” the statement said.
On the allegation that Anwar had brought reformation to the prison and prisoners and was now being supplied milk three times a week, the department said the supply of milk, supplements or special diets had long been given to prisoners who were sick or have health problems, upon recommendation by a medical officer.
“Milk is supplied not because of Datuk Seri Anwar or only given after he is here to serve his prison sentence,” said the statement in response to some news statements made by several Members of Parliament and lawyers, which were considered inaccurate by the department. - Therakyatpost
