Dr M getting too personal

The BN Backbenchers Club throws their lot firmly behind the PM and are confident he will answer all accusations levelled at him thus far by Dr Mahathir.
Shahrir SamadKUALA LUMPUR: The Barisan Nasional Backbenchers Club (BNBBC) is firmly behind Prime Minister Najib Razak and is confident he will answer all the accusations levelled at him by former premier Mahathir Mohamad, its chairman said today.
In a media briefing at Parliament complex, Shahrir Abdul Samad said, “I don’t think it will be a problem for Najib to provide an answer to the accusations, and I’m confident he will, as we can’t just ignore this.
He also said Mahathir’s relentless attacks on Najib had become too personal and was not the right way to resolve issues.
“The criticism has become too personal, that is why we are responding.
“If Tun Dr Mahathir loves the party, so do we, and this is not the way to do things, if one loves the party,” he said, assuring the media that their support for Najib was not blind support but based on things they had seen first hand.
“We have witnessed the changes brought about by the Prime Minister,” he said.
Shahrir also confirmed that BNBBC has played the role of mediator in the current feud between Najib and Mahathir, and had met with both parties.
“It’s not that we don’t care, when we leave it to them to engage in dialogues, but we have to declare our support (to Najib),” he added.
He acknowledged that while former premier Mahathir was undoubtedly older and more experienced, Najib and other Members of Parliament were more knowledgeable about issues affecting the grassroots.
“Dr Mahathir does not know what we are doing. We are on the ground and closer to the voters.
Shahrir also dismissed Najib’s involvement in the murder of Mongolian Altantuya Shaariibuu as the case had already been brought to the apex court of the nation and therefore all remaining skepticism should be put to rest.
Moreover, Shahrir added, “We saw how Najib swore on oath in deepest sincerity.”
“We aren’t just law abiding citizens, but also of strong faith in religion.”
