Wanita Umno leader tells of last message she received from Rompin MP

KUALA LUMPUR: Take good care of women, Wanita Umno leader Shahrizat Abdul Jalil was told by Jamaluddin Jarjis two hours before he died in a helicopter crash yesterday.

“Jat, do not forget that women are very important. Take good care of women,” she quoted him as saying.

Shahrizat told Bernama at the National Mosque, after his burial at the mausoleum: “He called me two hours before the crash and we talked for about 12 minutes. I never thought that would be the last conversation I would have with him.”

Shahrizat also described Jamaluddin as a true friend, who was close to her and her family.

She said Jamaluddin’s parting words were: “Ok, I’m going off.”

Shahrizat said: “I will never forget his kindness. We have known each other for not less than 30 years. Not only as politicians but as friends. He will surely be missed. Wanita Umno and I pray that his soul will be placed among pious Muslims.”

Jamaluddin and five others were returning from Pekan, Pahang, where he had attended the wedding reception of the prime minister’s daughter.

All on board the helicopter died when it crashed and burned in a rubber smallholding in Semenyih, outside Kuala Lumpur.
