The #KitaLawan movement today accused youth and sports minister Khairy Jamaluddin of failing to champion the people’s rights and concerns at the expense of his political career.
"He should fight for young people's issues, when young people are troubled with GST, but he is more interested in his own political career," #KitaLawan secretariat member Akmal Nasir said today.
Akmal added that Khairy, who is also Umno youth chief, has failed to do his job as minister as he was under pressure to save his political career by following prime minister Datuk Seri Najib Razak’s instructions.
The movement will again take to the streets of Kuala Lumpur this Saturday, this time in a cycling protest against the GST imposed on sporting goods.
Akmal said the protest, called 'Critical Mass Kuala Lumpur', will take place at Dataran Merdeka at 4pm, and urged Malaysians to join in to demand that the GST on sports-related goods and activities be abolished.
'Critical Mass' is a cycling event that originated from Europe and is described as 'monthly political-protest rides", where thousands of people participate by riding bicycles, reclaiming the streets.
"The idea or inspiration to use the bicycle is influenced by protest movements around the world,"
"Critical mass in Europe has specific connotations, but for us, this Saturday, our focus is on the abolishment of GST on sports-related activities and equipment," said Akmal.
