MIC: Party matters on hold until upcoming judicial review

VP says the courts will hear the judicial review that was filed by president G Palanivel to squash the RoS’s directive to hold fresh elections.
Saravanan_ros_mic_600KUALA LUMPUR: MIC has put its party matters on hold as it awaits the court’s decision on a judicial review.
Its vice-president M Saravanan said the Kuala Lumpur High Court will hear the judicial review that was filed by president G Palanivel to squash the Registrar of Societies’ (RoS) directive to the party to hold fresh elections.
“We will need to wait until the High Court hearing on April 15. In the meantime we will not make any party decisions including (conducting) the fresh elections,” he said during a press conference at the party’s headquarters today.
He added that the judge (Asmabi Mohamad) had asked the interim central working committee (CWC) elected from the last 2009 elections, not to hold any party meetings as a mark of respect for the court.
According to Bernama, Saravanan and CWC member S Ananthan filed to intervene in the party’s judicial review against the RoS yesterday in the Kuala Lumpur High Court.
Palanivel, former secretary-general A Prakash Rao and two vice-presidents, S Sothinathan and S Balakrishnan filed for an application for judicial review against the RoS’s letters that ordered MIC to hold fresh elections for its vice-presidents and CWC in 90 days’ time on December 5, 2014 after it found irregularities in the party’s elections in 2013.
