NAJIB CAMP PRE-EMPTING ALTANTUYA BOMBSHELL? Will Sirul be paid to blame Najib for Dr M - website
As Dr Mahathir Mohamad continues to rain criticism on Prime Minister Najib Abdul Razak, a pro-Umno website has speculated what could be in store next.
Previously, MYKMU.net, which has been highly critical of Mahathir since he launched a broadside on Najib, predicted that the former premier might train his guns on Najib's wife Rosmah Mansor.
Yesterday, Mahathir mentioned Rosmah for the first time.
And now, an article in MyKMU wonders if Mahathir would up the ante with Sirul Azhar Umar, the former police commando convicted of murdering Altantuya Shaariibuu.
In his initial posting attacking Najib, Mahathir had called on the police to investigate Sirul's claim as reported in an exclusive interview with Malaysiakini that he acted under orders.
"Seeing Mahathir's inclination to intervene in the murder of Altantuya, including meeting Sirul's family, it is not impossible that Sirul would be paid to confess about Najib's involvement in the murder.
"Sirul has nothing to lose since the death sentence has been passed. If Australia accepts his application to remain in that country, then the prediction (of him being paid) would be a reality because he needs money to live in Australia," read the article.
Preception over facts
According to MyKMU.net, the validity of his confession is immaterial because the main purpose is to create a negative perception.
Apart from this, it would be done to "support Mahathir's false claim" that Najib is a scandal-ridden leader.
The article also pointed out that in Malaysia, perception takes precedence over facts and Mahathir who used numerous methods to remain in power for more than two decades is aware of this.
Sirul had fled to Australia before the Federal Court upheld his and another former police commando Azilah Hadri's conviction after it was overturned by the Court of Appeal earlier.
He is currently being held at an immigration detention facility in Sydney.
Najib had denied any involvement in the case and repeated his innocence during a pre-recorded interview aired on TV3 recently.
Meanwhile, Mahathir, who met Sirul's mother to discuss about her son's plight, said he was not accusing the prime minister of committing a crime but was merely seeking answers.
The police have dismissed the need for a new probe on the grounds that Sirul did not furnish any new evidence. - M'kini
