Nomination process for Permatang Pauh by-election begins

It is scheduled to take one hour before Election Commission (EC) returning officer Jusni Ismail announced the names of the candidates who are contesting.
Earlier, Barisan Nasional (BN) announced Permatang Pauh Umno division secretary Suhaimi Sabudin as its candidate while PKR named its president Datuk Seri Dr Wan Azizah Wan Ismail as the party's candidate.
In the last general election, Anwar defeated Dr Mazlan Ismail from BN with a 11,721 majority-vote.
Permatang Pauh Parliamentary constituency has 71,890 registered voters comprising 71,252 ordinary voters, 627 early voters and 11 absentee voters.
Early voting will be on May 3 at the Seberang Perai Tengah District Police Headquarters' Dewan Gemilang and polling day on May 7 at 25 schools in the constituency.
The Permatang Pauh by-election is the 10th by-election after the last general election was held on May 5, 2013.
Prior to this, the nine by-elections are Kuala Besut state by-election, Terengganu (July 24, 2013); Sungai Limau state by-election, Kedah (November 4, 2013); Kajang state by-election, Selangor (March 23, 2014); Balingian state by-election, Sarawak (March 29, 2014); Bukit Gelugor parliamentary by-election, Penang (May 25, 2014); Teluk Intan parliamentary by-election, Perak (May 31, 2014); Pengkalan Kubor state by-election, Kelantan (Sept 25, 2014); Chempaka state by-election, Kelantan (March 22, 2015); and Rompin parliamentary by-election (May 5, 2015). – Bernama
