PM: Let the young pursue Vision 2020 their way

Najib tells previous leaders to give space to their successors.

PETALING JAYA: Prime Minister Najib Abdul Razak today pleaded with the “previous generation of leaders” to give space to their successors to pursue Vision 2020 on their own.

In an audio clip posted on NajibRazak.com, the Prime Minister said: “Vision 2020 was conceived by previous leaders for the benefit of future generations. The new generation should be given enough space to continue the effort to realise it.”

He said the current generation must be allowed to experience their own trials and tribulations as they gain the maturity and strength to face contemporary and future challenges.

Najib began the discourse with a description of how he felt when he had to give away his daughter in her recent marriage.

“Although my heart was heavy,” he said, “the time had come for me to release my daughter to face the world on her own, relying upon her own strengths.”

He acknowledged that the older generation would have gathered enough experience to give valuable guidance to the young. But he added: “The old must, at the same time, consider that the changing times bring forth new challenges.

“At times, the old are not happy with the ways of the young because these are different from the ways of their time. But whether the decisions of the young are right or wrong, it’s up to every individual to judge.”
