Umno man accuses Anwar's family of 'FABRICATING' stories on pardon

Umno man accuses Anwar's family of 'FABRICATING' stories on pardon
KUALA LUMPUR - The Opposition has been told not to fabricate stories that they had yet to receive official notice on the rejection of a petition seeking a royal pardon for jailed Opposition leader Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim.
Che Mohamad Zulkifly Jusoh (BN-Setiu) said Anwar, as the Permatang Pauh MP and Opposition leader, had been disqualified on March 16 after the Pardons Board made its decision and this was informed through an affidavit.
He said it was sufficient to inform through the affidavit and that Judge Datuk Asmabi Mohamad had made the decision in chambers in the presence of senior federal counsel Amarjeet Singh and Anwar’s lawyer, Latheefa Koya, as per court procedure.
“The disqualification as Permatang Pauh MP should have started from March 16; only that it had yet to be announced.
“This is merely a court procedure,” the former magistrate told The Rakyat Post.
Amarjeet, before this, had said the Yang di-Pertuan Agong rejected Anwar’s petition at a meeting of the board on March 16, thus resulting in the latter’s disqualification as MP, in accordance to Article 48(4)(c) of the Federal Constitution.
“Following the Pardons Board decision, the court dismissed an application by Anwar for leave for a judicial review on the decision of the Commissioner General of Prisons in prohibiting him from attending Dewan Rakyat sittings,” Amarjeet said.
Earlier today, Dewan Rakyat deputy speaker Datuk Ismail Mohamed Said read out the official statement by Speaker Tan Sri Pandikar Amin Mulia on Anwar’s disqualification as MP effective March 16, following the rejection of his petition for the royal pardon.
PKR president Datuk Seri Dr Wan Azizah Wan Ismail, who is also Anwar’s wife, described the statement by the Dewan Rakyat speaker as premature.
She claimed that Anwar’s family had yet to receive any notification in black and white notifying them on the Pardons Board’s decision on the petition filed on behalf of her husband.
“My lawyer advised that we should wait until the final decision’s notification. The speaker’s statement is too early,” she said.
Zulkifly told Wan Azizah not to fabricate stories as the decision reached was very clear and Anwar had been given sufficient space to appeal.
“The notification is in detail, but they continue to make up stories saying that the Pardons Board has yet to decide.
“Anwar’s disqualification has been delayed due to the petition for a royal pardon.
“He should have been disqualified immediately upon his conviction and jail term, if not for the petition for the royal pardon.
“But now it’s all clear,” he said.
Anwar is currently serving a five-year prison term after a five-man bench, led by Chief Justice Tun Arifin Zakaria, found him guilty of sodomising his former aide, Mohd Saiful Bukhari Azlan. - Therakayatpost
