WAVING THE WHITE FLAG? Najib sycophant tells Muhyiddin to hold SEPARATE closed-door meetings with Najib & Dr M
Dr Mahathir Mohamad's stinging criticism of Prime Minister Najib Abdul Razak has rattled Umno and its grassroots leaders are concerned about the consequences.
Among them is Cheras Umno division chief Syed Ali Alhabshee who urged party deputy president Muhyiddin Yassin and the vice-presidents to resolve the crisis.
He said these leaders should hold two separate closed-door meetings with Mahathir and Najib.
Syed Ali also wanted the supreme council members and respective wings' chiefs to participate in these meetings.
"I am of the opinion that the deputy and vice-presidents must meet Najib and Mahathir to explain the issues raised.
"The senior leaders must find a way to broker peace between these two," he said.
Speculation had been rife for long that a move, spearheaded by Mahathir, has been orchestrated to oust Najib and to install Muhyiddin as prime minister.
The number two, like his boss, has remained silent over the former premier's attacks.
Meanwhile, Syed Ali also stressed on the importance of not disrespecting Mahathir, whom he considers as a father, when defending Najib.
He said while the former premier could have his own reasons for criticising Najib, the Umno leader also believes that the latter would do what is best for the Malays and all races in Malaysia.
'Look into the mirror'
In a related development, Berita Harian reported that Umno division leaders are planning to invite Mahathir to hold a discussion with Najib
Commenting on this, Terengganu Menteri Besar Ahmad Razif Abdul Rahman said Umno leaders are hoping the two would meet face-to-face.
"This intention was relayed by all Umno divisions where they unanimously want to see the matter regarding the PM's leadership resolved amicably.
"We hope the meeting could be held as soon as possible to ensure that this matter does not arise again and is manipulated by the opposition," he said.
He also urged Umno members and leaders to voice their support for Najib.
Other reports also surfaced regarding various leaders backing the prime minister, for example MCA president Liow Tiong Lai.
On a harsher note, PBS deputy president Maximus Ongkili urged Mahathir to look at himself in the mirror before asking Najib to resign. - M'kini
