Cops want Maisara to aid rape threat probe

Police want anti-goods and services tax protester Maisara Amira Mohamad Asmadi to come to the Kuala Lumpur district police headquarters to speed up investigations on her claim that a police officer threatened to rape her while she was held in custody.

Maisara said a police officer threatened to rape her if she did not cooperate with investigations when she was under remand at the Dang Wangi district police headquarters on May 4, after being arrested over the May 1 rally.

"Contact the Kuala Lumpur Criminal Investigations Department chief tomorrow morning and bring Maisara to the Kuala Lumpur police headquarters so we can speed up investigations," Inspector-General of Police Khalid Abu Bakar told Maisara's lawyer G Sivamalar on Twitter last night.

Khalid also said that the Kuala Lumpur police headquarters have recorded statements from six people regarding the case.

Report lodged

Maisara, 21 (photo), called a press conference yesterday to urge a separate team of investigators to investigate the case so as to avoid a cover-up.

She lodged a police report on the alleged rape threat at the Petaling Jaya district police headquarters on May 6, the day after she was released.

Earlier, Dang Wangi district police chief Zainol Samah said his team started investigating as soon as they were told a police report was lodged.

Maisara, the only female among the 23 youths remanded for four days over the rally, said a police officer threatened to rape her, record the rape on video and to sell the video if she did not reply to police questions.

About 20,000 people thronged downtown Kuala Lumpur on May 1 to urge the cancellation of the GST which was introduced at six percent on April 1, 2015. -Mkini
