PETALING JAYA: Since nothing the government says is seen as credible any longer by the people, Sabah State Speaker Salleh Said Keruak has suggested that everyone let the Public Accounts Committee (PAC) instead do their job and tell us where the RM42 billion from 1MDB has disappeared to.
In his latest blog posting, Salleh said, “It is best we let the PAC complete its investigation into 1MDB and then come out with its report. The external auditors are also doing the same.
“After all, the members of the PAC comprise of opposition leaders as well.”
He said that with opposition members also sitting on the committee, the people could no longer condemn the findings, whatever it may be, by labelling it a “government cover up” as they were prone to do when government officials issued statements.
He also said the crux of the matter was that 1Malaysia Development Berhad had allegedly “lost” RM42 billion and that the PAC should focus on whether this was indeed a fact or untrue.
“And if the answer is no then the PAC needs to tell us where that money is, which is what most people want to know.”
Among those insisting for an answer is former prime minister Dr Mahathir Mohamad, who has stressed that the question was never that billions were lost but that nobody knows where it was lost .
“As Dr Mahathir said, it is not the issue that money has been lost. Dr Mahathir admitted that even when he was Prime Minister the country lost a lot of money, probably more than the amount involving 1MDB.
“It is the knowledge of where it has been lost that is important,” said Salleh.
He also said that only when this issue was settled could the controversy surrounding 1MDB be put to rest.
