Rafizi tells PAS and DAP to cool off hostilities

Stop the sniping for two weeks until PAS holds its assembly, says PKR secretary-general.

KUALA LUMPUR: PKR’s Rafizi Ramli today called on his compatriots in PAS and DAP to stop from further public exchanges to preserve ties in Pakatan Rakyat.
Several DAP and PAS leaders have been engaged in acrimonious debates and have exchanged heated comments over hudud and other issues since the PAS-led Kelantan state government passed a motion in the state assembly in March to enforce hudud.
If the worse happens and PAS pull outs of the PR coalition, it would have serious consequences for the Opposition, in Selangor in particular where it could affect the stability of the state government.
With an eye on the PAS congress (muktamar) and elections scheduled to take place in two weeks, the PKR secretary-general said it was best all parties cooled off.
PAS has said it plans to re-evaluate its co-operation with DAP during its Muktamar in June after the latter had severed ties with PAS president Abdul Hadi Awang in March, but continued to have working relations with the party.
Rafizi said it was “understandable” that DAP parliamentary leader Lim Kit Siang was worried about PR’s future, and that the best way to remedy the situation was for both PAS and DAP to stop their open hostilities.
“That is why I think the best way to manage it and to preserve Pakatan in spite of whatever results that will be in the next two weeks is to have a cooling period until after that time,” said Rafizi in a Malay Mail Online report today.
