RETURNING SUPPORT OR FREE MEAL? Full house at MCA dinner in P Pauh

RETURNING SUPPORT OR FREE MEAL? Full house at MCA dinner in P Pauh
PERMATANG PAUH - In what appears to be a return of Chinese support to Barisan Nasional (BN), more than 400 people attended a full house MCA dinner this evening.
The dinner, which was held near the Kuan Yin temple at Jalan Tanah Liat here, was attended by MCA deputy president Datuk Seri Wee Ka Siong.
Wee, addressing the crowd in Mandarin, urged them not to be duped by the sweet promises of the Opposition, including the abolition of certain taxes.
He also highlighted the inconsistencies and internal conflict within Pakatan, especially with regard to hudud.
Wee, who is Minister in the Prime Minister’s Department, also took a swipe at the Opposition for misleading the people on various national issues.
“Permatang Pauh voters must chart a new future for themselves by rejecting the Opposition.
“Barisan Nasional is not perfect but with the people’s support and mandate, we will work our hardest to meet the needs of the rakyat.”
One of the attendees, who only wished to be known as Pang, claimed that the Chinese community was disappointed with Pakatan Rakyat.
“The Chinese are unhappy that DAP and PAS have failed to rein in PAS which has been trying to push for hudud.

“As far as the Chinese are concerned, we just want our way of life to remain the same without fear of being affected by hudud,” said Pang, a basket weaver.
The Chinese make up approximately 16,000 of the voters in the Permatang Pauh parliamentary constituency.
Barisan Nasional could only gain less than 3,000 of the Chinese votes in Permatang Pauh in the last General Election.
Back then, the majority of the Chinese electorate felt that MCA had failed to take care of their interests in the wake of the emergence of ultra-nationalist Malay rights groups, notably Perkasa.
As a result, the once dominant MCA saw the number of its representatives reduced to seven MPs and 11 assemblymen in the whole country.
The election result on May 7 will reveal if the dinner attendance is indeed a true reflection of Chinese attitude towards MCA.
Also present were MCA vice-president Chua Tee Yong and state BN chairman Teng Chang Yeow from BN component party Gerakan. - Therakyatpost
