The Department of Islamic Development Malaysia (Jakim) has revoked the halal certificate of home-grown cafe chain Secret Recipe.
In a statement released on its Facebook page today, Jakim Halal Hub division director Hakimah Mohd Yusoff said that the revocation had nothing to do with the use of non-halal ingredients.
Hakimah said Secret Recipe had instead breached its “halal certification procedure on cleanliness and good manufacturing practices.”
"The revocation does not stop the company from applying for halal certificate once it has made the changes and abide by the Malaysian certification standard," said Halimah.
She said Jakim met Syarikat Secret Recipe Manufacturing Sdn Bhd and its representatives promised to act immediately to remedy the situation.
Hakimah said Jakim would evaluate the company's halal certificate application after it had conducted checks based on the Malaysia Standard 1500:2009 and Halal Manual Procedure Certification 2014.
Companies with halal certification were reminded to abide by the standards set by Jakim in preparing food products.
