KUALA LUMPUR: 1Malaysia Development Berhad (1MDB) has confirmed in a statement that none of its employees have been detained by the police or held under remand.
The company was commenting on media reports that one individual had been picked up by police in connection with on-going investigations by a Special Task Force.
“1MDB reiterates our commitment to fully-co-operate with all lawful authorities that are currently investigating 1MDB,” said the statement.
The Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) on Tuesday obtained an order from the Magistrate’s Court to remand a company director to assist in the investigation into the accounts of 1MDB, according to Bernama, the national news agency.
Magistrate Lau Eric issued the order to remand the 39-year-old man until Friday for investigation under Section 17 (a) of the MACC Act.
The man was arrested at the KL International Airport on Monday night by the Special Task Force probing the accounts of 1MDB, a government-owned strategic investment and development company.
The suspect, in orange-coloured MACC lockup attire, arrived at the court at about 8.30 am. He was represented by lawyer Muhammad Shafee Abdullah.
Shafee told reporters the MACC had asked for a seven-day remand order but the magistrate had given them four days instead.
He said he did not know the grounds for his client’s arrest but was told it was an “investigation on national grounds”.
