Allegations that almost US$700 million (RM2.6 billion) of 1MDB's funds were deposited into Prime Minister Najib Abdul Razak's personal bank accounts have sparked a series of police reports from both sides of the political divide.

The allegation surfaced yesterday following concurrent reports byWall Street Journal (WSJ) and whistleblower website Sarawak Report on the matter.

Umno, in its police report today, targeted Sarawak Report which it claimed was defaming Najib.

PAS representatives also lodged several police reports nationwide, demanding police investigate Najib over the allegations made inWSJ and Sarawak Report.

DAP's Klang MP Charles Santiago is also expected to lodge a similar police report tomorrow.

According to Bernama, Umno's police report was lodged by its Puteri chief Mas Ermieyati Samsudin in Alor Gajah, Malacca.

"The article which we believe is malicious and foul, is clearly an attempt to defame and discredit the reputation of Najib and his leadership.

"Puteri calls for a thorough investigation against those who published the defamatory article," she was quoted as saying.

Najib denial

Meanwhile, PAS lodged a police report in Kuala Terengganu today, calling for the serious allegations against Najib to be probed.

The report was made by Kuala Terengganu PAS information bureau who was accompanied by PAS Ulama information chief Mohd Khairuddin Aman.

A similar police report was also lodged by the Selangor PAS information bureau in Shah Alam this morning.

Yesterday, WSJ and Sarawak Report alleged that US$700 million of 1MDB's fund was deposited into three of Najib's personal bank accounts shortly before the 13th general election.

Najib has denied taking government money for personal gain and accused former prime minister Dr Mahathir Mohamad of perpetrating the allegations.
