Freeze on bank accounts a big slap for Najib

Prime Minister Najib Abdul Razak has a choice: whether to resign or be pushed out of office.

KUALA LUMPUR: A political analyst, taking to his blog for the second time in the day, noted that the Wall Street Journal (WSJ) report last Friday has been partly justified with the decision by the authorities to freeze six bank accounts effective Monday night. “This means that the alleged bank accounts do exist. Prime Minister Najib Abdul Razak has a choice: whether to resign or be pushed out.”
“The freeze is a big slap in Najib’s face and makes it extremely difficult for him to continue as the Prime Minister and Finance Minister. This has made world news.”
The Prime Minister, added Shahbudin Husin, hasn’t even come to the point of suing WSJ as he pledged to do. “The people are already convinced that the WSJ report was true.”
“The media has reported that three of the accounts are in the name of Prime Minister Najib Abdul Razak,” said Shahbudin. “It’s not known who owns the other three accounts but the guess is that this belongs to the three firms which channeled monies into Najib’s accounts.”
The accounts, he ventured, probably belong to the three firms which had earlier been raided by the authorities as confirmed by Attorney- General Gani Patail.
It’s interesting, said the analyst, that Najib meanwhile has yet to state whether he has the bank accounts mentioned in the WSJ report and whether extraordinarily large sums of money entered these accounts by March last year. “So far, the only thing that he has said is that he has never taken any money for his personal use from 1MDB or any other entities.”
