I was offered info on 1MDB, says Kit Siang

While questions still abound over the credibility of a video confession by a former Sarawak journalist on the alleged forgery of 1Malaysia Development Berhad (1MDB) documents by Sarawak Report, DAP's Lim Kit Siang today claimed he was offered information about the troubled company by an unidentified person a few days ago.
The DAP parliamentary leader said he received a phone call from a person who claimed to have information related to the state investment vehicle and asked if Lim was interested in it.
"When I said yes, he said he needed money and when I told him that these are two separate issues which I am not prepared to link together, the caller ended the phone conversation. I have not heard from him since.
Lim said he would not touch with "a barge pole any seedy, dubious and mercenary characters" who claim to  have “vital info” for sale, citing lack of credibility of the information offered.
Lim told The Malaysian Insider that the caller did not identify himself but said the offer came before Umno minister Datuk Seri Abdul Rahman Dahlan's allegation on Wednesday that opposition politicians had worked with Sarawak Report to forge documents leading to the many exposes on 1MDB.
Rahman had said there was "solid evidence", including an alleged video confession, provided in a police report lodged by Ramesh Rao Krishnan Naidu, the president of Pertubuhan Minda dan Sosial Prihatin (PMSP), a Barisan Nasional-friendly non-governmental organisation.
The police report named Lester Melanyi as a former editor who worked with Sarawak Report, but this was dismissed by the site’s founder and editor Clare Rewcastle-Brown.
However, Melanyi has insisted that his information was genuine and is standing by his claims.
Rahman had also insisted that people focus on Melanyi’s message instead of questioning his credibility.
Lim, the Gelang Patah MP, said yesterday that Rahman's insistence had won him instant media fame (or infamy) by having egg all over the face.
Rahman, who is Urban Wellbeing, Housing and Local government minister, responded through twitter to hit back at Lim.
"Is @limkitsiang worried his star MP cld be proven lying abt mtg Justo? Clearly the eggs are on your face Mr Lim, not mine," said Rahman.
He was understood to be referring to DAP's national publicity secretary and Petaling Jaya Utara MP Tony Pua, who has insisted he had never met former PetroSaudi International executive Xavier Andre Justo, who is currently under Thai police custody for attempting to blackmail his former company.
Justo had apparently admitted to meeting a Malaysian opposition leader at a hotel in Singapore before selling documents related to 1MDB’s aborted joint venture with PetroSaudi.
Rahman also said in another tweet: "When BN questioned the credibility of DAP's sources, @limkitsiang always quick to say "Don't shoot the messenger, focus on the message!" So?"
Continuing their spat, Lim said by Rahman's logic, he should then pay money for the information peddled by the anonymous person, be reckless about the mercenary's motivation and the veracity of the information and also demand that prime minister Datuk Seri Najib Razak accept it as the gospel truth.
"Clearly, Rahman still does not understand the ethics, principles and honour of public life," he said, adding that it was obvious that different standards and principles were at play.
Lim also said he was rendered speechless by Rahman's "copy cat response" on the egg statement, saying that it was folly on his part to expect any originality or creativity from an Umno or Barisan Nasional minister.
