ISN'T THAT UMNO & WHO IS KJ MARRIED TO? Khairy mocks parties run by families
PUTRAJAYA - Youth and Sports Minister Khairy Jamaluddin mocked at political parties that were run by family members.
His jab comes after Sabah Youth Parliamentarian Muhamad Faisal Muhammad Mohiden raised the problems faced by youth groups in Sabah which had wives as deputy presidents, husbands as presidents and lacked other members.
“There are political parties like that,” Khairy said at a session of the National Youth Policy town hall meeting held at the Youth and Sports Ministry here.
Faisal had claimed in Tawau that there were 54 youth organisations but only 16 active associations and it was worrisome when some associations hitched onto activities of other associations in the area.
“We need a watchdog that monitors youth associations so grants or funds are not misused for personal purposes.
“Youth in Sabah are very active and it would be a loss if the associations are not active and are opportunistic,” he said.
Meanwhile, Khairy said the monitoring of youth associations would be conducted by Registrar of Youth Societies in collaboration with the National Youth Council.
In another development, Khairy said, only 20 to 30% of youth in the country had registered with associations.
According to him, the new Youth Policy could increase youth participation in registered associations.
Last May, Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Razak launched a new Malaysian Youth Policy which was more comprehensive for youth development to achieve the high-income nation status.
The Malaysian Youth Policy, which will be implemented starting in 2018 to replace the National Youth Development Policy 1997, also revised the age limit of youth to 15-30 years from 15-40 previously. - Therakyatpost
