NAJIB & SYCOPHANTS UNWORTHY OF MALAYS: They make Umno look 'stupid' & 'thuggish'
PETALING JAYA - The government’s decision to block Sarawak Report has prompted Raub MP Ariff Sabri to expand on an argument he has often made in his writings – that Umno is not an organisation worthy of any self-respecting Malay.
Citing official statements explaining the action against the whistle-blowing website, he says Umno has shown that it is incapable of influencing people through rational arguments.
“The responses from Abdul Rahman Dahlan and Shabery Cheek are the thuggish responses of people with the attitude of gangsters because they have power,” Ariff writes in his latest blog posting. “They have physical power, but not the power to influence minds.”
Abdul Rahman, who is Barisan Nasional’s Strategic Communications Director, has said that the government made its move against Sarawak Report to show that it refuses to condone “blatant lies” and irresponsible reporting. Shabery, the Minister of Communications and Multimedia, said the website’s “unsubstantiated content” could threaten national order.
Ariff challenges the government to prove that Sarawak Report’s contents, particularly its allegations of corruption against Prime Minister Najib Razak, are indeed lies.
He notes that Abdul Rahman’s arguments are based on allegations made by journalist Lester Melanyi, who he says is known in Sarawak as an unreliable person.
“So that is Abdul Rahman’s proof,” Ariff says. “But never mind; stupidity is not a crime.”
He says Abdul Rahman will eventually drown in his own delusions. “And when Abdul Rahman fumbles, other Umno leaders will rejoice. We know that in Umno, if they can’t quarrel with other parties, they’ll quarrel among themselves.”
Ariff says the action against Sarawak Report is only the latest illustration of how desperate the Najib administration is in trying to cover up its misdeeds and how willing it is to use its political power to delude the public.
He appears confident that the allegation about 1MDB funds flowing through Najib’s personal bank accounts will eventually be proven true.
“This is money laundering,” he says. “It is probably criminal breach of trust involving government funds. This is one wrongdoing that can send the PM to jail.”
Referring to the suspicion that the money – said to amount to RM2.6 billion – was used to fund Barisan Nasional’s election campaign, he says, “This means that the Umno government was built on graft, on a culture of corruption, by the corrupt. This is not the kind of government that the Malays can be proud of.” - FMT
