Prime Minister Najib Abdul Razak can absolve himself of allegations of siphoning almost US$700 million in state funds by proving the bank accounts where the money was deposited into are not his, PKR vice-president Rafizi Ramli said today.

He said this in reference to a Wall Street Journal report yesterday claiming that nearly US$700 million in 1MDB's funds were deposited into Najib's private Ambank accounts shortly before the 13th general election.

"To clear his name, AmBank should confirm or deny whether the account numbers revealed by WSJ under Najib's name really exist.

"This will give a more accurate picture to the rakyat on whether Najib is really involved in taking funds belonging to the rakyat as claimed byWSJ and Sarawak Report," he said in a statement today.

Likewise, he said Bank Negara should also facilitate in verifying the account numbers and who the holders were.

Rafizi said if they can be proven to be non-existent, that the matter can be put to rest.

However, he said if there are merits to the allegation, then Najib must go on leave and allow an acting prime minister to take over.

Rafizi, who is also PKR secretary-general, said Najib should also come clean on his bank records in keeping with the requirements of his office.

"I am certain that Najib has nothing to hide and the best way to end these attacks on his credibility is for him to allow Ambank or any other banks to reveal all the accounts he has opened since he became prime minister in 2009," said Rafizi.
