Negative sentiments on the idea of Sarawak in the Federation caused by NGO’s

KLANG: Minister of Human Resources, Richard Riot, commenting on the Sarawak Government’s position on the idea of secession from Malaysia, agrees that his homeland will never leave Malaysia under the Barisan Nasional (BN) Sarawak.
“The question of Sarawak leaving Malaysia, does not arise with the BN Sarawak,” said Riot. “As a Minister and a member of Parliament, I dare say that Sarawak will stay with the Federation.”
Speaking to reporters on the sidelines of the Human Resource Development Fund (HRDF) Apprenticeship Scheme Convocation, Riot added that Prime Minister Najib Abdul Razak was willing to listen to the Chief Minister and people of Sarawak. “He’s very close with Sarawak”.
“He has Sarawak close to his heart,” reiterated Riot.
He blamed negative sentiments on the idea of Sarawak in the Federation as being caused by NGO’s. “Their views do not represent that of the government.”
“We can’t stop them holding peaceful gatherings as NGOs.”
Riot stated that Chief Minister Adenan Satem had in fact said during his speech on Wednesday that Sarawak will remain in the Federation.
The Sarawak Dayak Iban Association (Sadia) and Sarawak for Sarawak (S4S) reportedly organised the “722 Sarawak Freedom and Independence Day Walk” at Padang Jubilee, Kuching, in conjunction with the anniversary of Sarawak’s independence from the British on July 22, 1963
Despite the Inspector-General of Police Khalid Abu Bakar warning against joining the rally, it was reported that approximately 1,000 people turned up.
According to police, “the organizers of the rally allegedly planned to provoke and influence the people in Sarawak with the idea of secession”.
