Police are on the hunt for four suspects who were caught on camera robbing a sundry shop in the small town of Sagil in Johor.

A police spokesperson confirmed that the CCTV footage of the robbery going viral on the social media is genuine and that police were stepping up efforts to catch the culprits.

The video first shows one of the suspects dancing into the shop, leaving a bottle on top of a counter and then leaving.

The suspect then enters the shop again, then exits and re-enters, the third time followed by three others.

Two of the suspects are armed with what appears to be either sugar cane or bamboo poles, which they then used to threaten the elderly couple running the shop.

They are also filmed attacking the old man with the pole before shoving him around.

While the attack is taking place, one of the suspects is seen emptying the cash register.

Malaysiakini is awaiting to learn more about the case from the response to its questions to the local police.
