Talk of conspiracy meant to divert attention from RM2.6b

Shahbudin Husin says the issue of the billions in the PM’s accounts will not go away because it has already generated local and international attention.

KUALA LUMPUR: A political analyst feels that attempts are being made by Prime Minister Najib Abdul Razak and his people to divert attention from the crux of the issue facing the government of Malaysia: RM2.6 billion entered Najib’s personal banking accounts with AmBank Islamic private banking services before the last General Election. “There’s no indication as yet whether the special Task Force investigating the case will take a statement from Najib on the issue.”
“The case of the RM2.6 billion in Najib’s accounts needs to be settled as it not only affects the position of the Prime Minister but also the Cabinet, government and the country in the eyes of the people and the world and is a blot on the memory of the late Abdul Razak, the second prime minister and Najib’s father.”
The media hype on conspiracy and the like, tampered documents and arrests are part of the attempts to divert from the crux of the issue in which Najib is involved, said Shahbudin Husin. “If Abdullah Badawi can be removed as prime minister, the same thing can happen to Najib. Is Badawi a bigger sinner than him?”
“Does he think that he’s so suci (clean) that nothing will happen to him? The people will decide his fate based on how he handles The Wall Street Journal (WSJ) case.”
Already, there are holes in his indirect reference to the RM2.6 billion, he added. “Najib said, among others, that he didn’t use the monies for personal purposes.”
Shahbudin estimates that if the 222 Umno Divisions were given RM2 million each for the last General Election, that comes to less than RM500 million, leaving the bulk of the money or at least RM2.1 billion with Najib and unaccounted for. “For what purpose can this money be used if not for personal reasons?”
The “kampung” people, he continued, are wondering why Najib needs so much money and what he’s doing with it. “It’s no use anyone forgetting the issue of the RM2.6 billion, whether purposely or feigning forgetfulness.”
The issue will not go away as it has been published with so much clarity in the highly respected and authoritative WSJ on July 3, he pointed out. “In fact, Najib’s lawyers have sent a letter to the WSJ seeking confirmation on the contents, received a reply, and they would have to now consider their options including taking the American newspaper to Court.”
