Umno blame Johor DAP leader’s statement for violent actions at kopitiam

Johor Umno members are blaming Kluang MP Liew Chin Tong for their actions in violently disrupting a talk by DAP's Gelang Patah MP Lim Kit Siang in a talk held at a kopitiam in Masai yesterday. – The Malaysian Insider pic, July 6, 2015.

Approximately 100 Umno supporters were furious over Johor DAP chairman Liew Chin Tong's statement which allegedly insulted the Malay party and its president Datuk Seri Najib Razak.

In his speech which lasted not more than a minute at an event in Taman Megah Ria, Masai, near Johor Baru today, the Kluang MP, among others, claimed that Umno members were trying to topple Najib.

The statement immediately caused approximately 100 Umno supporters, who were there in protest of DAP veteran Lim Kit Siang's presence in the constituency, to become furious. Lim is also Gelang Patah MP.

It also led to a commotion and physical altercations between Umno supporters and the DAP leaders attending the meet-and-greet event with the people of Sabah and Sarawak here, including Rinting assemblyman Cheo Yee How and Johor Jaya assemblyman Liow Cai Tung.

The physical altercations lasted about 15 to 20 minutes before police came to maintain order.

Following the incident, police also advised the DAP leaders to cancel their walkabout programme at the Borneo Market. – Bernama
