The former deputy prime minister did not discount the possibility that interference from some quarters led to the task force being disbanded.
He urged the three enforcement agencies roped into the task force – Bank Negara Malaysia, the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission and the police – not to stop taking legal action as provided for within their own jurisdiction if there were wrongdoings committed in 1MDB.
"But that doesn't mean action according to the law cannot be taken by the respective authorities if they find elements of financial scandal, corruption or crime.
"If there are such findings, action must be taken," he said when officiating the Kemaman Umno division meeting in Terengganu this afternoon.
The deputy prime minister said the disbandment of the task force had disrupted the probe into 1MDB.
"The question today is why the action and measures (to investigate), which have been disrupted, now appear to be discontinued all together.
"There seems to be some interference that caused issues and problems like what we are seeing now," he said.
Muhyiddin said problems between the agencies that formed the task force also caused the probe to be disrupted.
"Action was taken to investigate and find out the truth, but sadly, when the work started, it was disrupted. Why is that?
The government formed the task force to probe the 1MDB scandal and the allegation that billions of ringgit from a company linked to the debt-ridden fund was deposited into Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Razak's personal bank accounts.
The allegation that Najib received US$700 million (RM2.67 billion) in his AmBank accounts in early 2013 was reported by The Wall Street Journal and whistle-blower site Sarawak Report last month.
But the coordination of the task force appeared to be 'confused' when police detained and investigated several MACC and Bank Negara officers.
Two MACC directors were also transferred out of the agency last week over allegations of misconduct, but the order was rescinded on Monday after a public outcry.
On August 5, MACC said the task force had been disbanded and all three agencies would be investigating 1MDB on their own.
