HADI TORPEDOED: Next, Johor PAS office bearers to resign by Wed
JOHOR BARU - Several PAS office bearers and committee members from the party’s constituencies in Johor are expected to tender their resignations from their posts in three days.
Resignations are expected in four of the party’s Johor constituencies on Aug 26.
It is learnt that about 200 PAS members, holding various posts, from the party’s Kota Tinggi, Mersing, Tenggara and Kulai divisions will tender their resignations.
It is understood that the move will help pave the way for the members to join the splinter movement, Gerakan Harapan Baru (GHB).
However, it could not be confirmed if the move will cause the PAS branches in Johor to be dissolved due to the resignations.
This latest move follows the en masse resignations of 413 PAS office bearers from Selangor early this week.
Recently, the Islamist party’s Kuala Terengganu Member of Parliament Datuk Raja Kamarul Bahrin Shah announced that he had also left the party and was now the Terengganu GHB chairman.
Newly-appointed Johor GHB chairman Aminolhuda Hassan said the PAS members in the affected areas in Johor were only resigning from their party posts.
“They are still considered PAS members. It is just that they do not hold any party or committee posts,” he said when contacted by The Rakyat Post recently.
When asked if the resignations from the posts were related to the members joining GHB or paving the way for them to join the movement, Aminolhuda declined to comment.
Aminolhuda, who was the former Johor PAS commissioner, is still a member of the Islamist party and has the respect from the more progressive members.
The 55-year-old Parit Yaani assemblyman said there was a possibility of more resignations to come from the state after Aug 26.
GHB, which was recently reported to have registered its political party under the name Amanah, was formed by former PAS progressive leaders who lost during the party’s Muktamar in April.
According to PAS’ constitution, a member can only cease to be a member of the Islamist party under three main situations — disciplinary action, personal requests or joining another party. - Therakyatpost
