‘MALAYSIAKINI’ A BIGGER THREAT TO NATIONAL SECURITY THAN ‘SARAWAK REPORT’, SAYS AWANG SELAMAT

Malaysiakini-Office
(The Rakyat Post) – Online news portal Malaysiakiniis a bigger threat to national security than whistle-blower site Sarawak Report, says Utusan Malaysia.
The Malay daily’s collective editorial Awang Selamat said in its column today, that the portal was better in hiding it’s agenda, shielding behind freedom of the media which it had used to support the cause carried by Opposition party DAP.
“Without shame or guilt, the portal continues to publish reports that are not only confusing, misleading and false, but also aimed at creating an altercation between leaders and government departments.
“Since Malaysiakini‘s mission to topple the government in the last general election by lighting up the sentiment of hating the government failed, Awang is more cautious.
“The portal has caused a lot of negativity, including manipulating claims stating that there were more than 40,000 phantom voters, which had clearly helped the Opposition, especially DAP, to win many seats in a non-respectable manner,” wrote Awang, adding that the report was proven untrue.
Awang questioned the reason the portal had heightened its attacks on national institutions.
“It is time for the authorities including the Home Ministry, Communication and Multimedia Commission and the Malaysian Companies Commission to investigateMalaysiakini and its source of funding as well as its potential threat to the country.
In the column, Awang also touched on the National Consultative Committee on Political Funding announced by Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Razak, stating it would be interesting to see the reaction of DAP and PKR.
Awang said that this was an opportunity for both parties to support the proposal calling for more integrity in political funding.
“DAP can’t continue to be left behind, especially since the party has admitted that this is an era which calls for more transparent political funding.
“Awang’s advise is for DAP not to fear revealing the source of its political funding unless there is a lot for it to hide.”
