Mind boggling Malaysia now implores God’s intervention – J.D. Lovrenciear

One of the greater things about Malaysians is that we believe in prayers.
The number of places of worship and prayer places that crowd the Malaysian landscape is indeed most reassuring and in many ways attests to our strong believe in prayer.
At least in this troubled world and times, we witness here in this country humanity's rooted faith in God.
Lately both the guilty and the virtuous are holding prayers to “save Malaysia”.
So much so, we do not know who amongst them all is the “sinner” and who is the “saint” before God.
Everyone is gung-ho in wanting to seek God's intervention to “save Malaysia” as 1MDB remains a painful bone stubbornly stuck in the passage of the nation’s perilous future owing to Malaysians' own sins of omission and commission.
We heard that the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) held prayers to seek divine strength and courage to persevere as honourable believers in their duties, given the actions that swamped MACC in the midst of investigations being carried out on 1MDB by its officers.
Then we heard that even the prime minister held prayers to “save Malaysia”. From who, we are not too sure.
But most likely it must be from the "enemies of this nation" as asserted by the Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Razak much earlier.
But again, the enemies could be the foreign media who are making breaking news on 1MDB; it may also be the stubborn opposition politicians who do not want to let go of the hard bite they have on 1MDB; it even perhaps may include the unceremoniously sacked deputy prime minister and all his sworn supporters within and outside Umno; ah, yes, it could also be the various media that are not on the same page as the Umno-owned media.
And we are even led to suspect that the prayers for heavenly intercession could also be because Malaysians are refusing to accept any and all explanations from the Najib-camp but keep asking and seeking out explanations and clarifications about the puzzling 1MDB.
So the “save Malaysia” prayers were offered by the Najib-camp.
And now, the opposition camp is also holding prayers to “save Malaysia”.
It is good to prayer. Pray we must. Without prayer our lives are empty pods no matter how much we may have or are deprived of. Prayer’s immediate blessing is that sense of relief; it gives courage; it ignites hope.
But when everyone is jumping on the band wagon to prayer to “save Malaysia”, we have every reason to start thinking too.
Who are our enemies that we want God to save us from?
If the Najib-camp’s prayers are answered, almost half (if not more) of Malaysians will be wiped out in all probability.
That includes the sizeable numbers from Umno’s three million membership strength too. And let us not forget that all the local and foreign media that are Malaysia’s “enemies” will also be checked through the prayers offered to “save Malaysia”.
Now, conversely, if the opposition’s prayers are answered, those with stained guilt on their hands for dabbling with and for the 1MDB will be punished.
The only difficulty is we do not know whether that punishment is here and now on earth by way of removal from office at the least, or in the hereafter after all the juicy wealth has been feasted upon.
Indeed, we need to instead ask a soul searching question before the God we plead unto.
Have we as responsible believers of religion carried out our duties, obligations and responsibilities placed upon us as leaders and people in position?
Have we stood tall and loud for the rights against the wrongs honourably before humanity and God?
Or are we abusing religion and the beliefs to exploit further gain in our favour?
Seriously, if Malaysia needs to be saved, we need first to be crystal clear and nationally agreeable as to be saved from whom?
And to arrive at that we need leaders and hired professionals to revisit the ethical standards that Malaysia responsibly crafted and claims to have instituted to the letter.
But if our own, individual self-centered safety and security is far more important than the standards we proclaimed to uphold as a nation of good governance, then we should have no business to join the prayerful.
When we do not know crook from saint and all camps want to “save Malaysia” through prayers, then there is an even greater dilemma plaguing this nation of people – followers and their leaders.
And that is, are we letting politics to make a mockery of the very teachings and practices that we hold most scared according to our religious beliefs?
