Najib’s ‘tukang karut’ have gone off their rockers

The spin-doctors don’t care who they destroy, even the institutions and the country, as long as their boss is safe

KUALA LUMPUR: A veteran newsman notes in his latest blog posting that in their zeal to defend their boss, Prime Minister Najib Abdul Razak, his tukang karut (purveyors of falsehood) and the “meanstream – yes they are mean – media and the bangang (stupid) bloggers have gone absolutely off their rockers. To digress a little, it was Najib who called his bloggers bangang during the last Umno General Assembly.
Former New Straits Times Group Editor in Chief Kadir Jasin added that Najib’s people are demonizing all and sundry who they think are a threat to or deemed to be a threat to him. “They don’t give a hoot if they destroy state institutions like the Malaysian Anti Corruption Commission (MACC), the Attorney-General’s Chambers and Bank Negara.”
“They have succeeded in discrediting, demoralizing and fracturing the AG’s Chambers, the MACC and the police. Now, they are attacking Bank Negara.”
The veteran newsman argues that by demonizing the institutions and their leaders, the spin-doctors are in fact acknowledging that the personalities under attack and their institutions are more credible and trustworthy than the government led by Najib. “Their slash and burn tactics affirms their suicidal temperament,” said Kadir. “To them, if Najib does not survive, then nobody should, not even the country.”
The ringgit has hit a 17-year low on August 3, Bank Negara reserves are down by USD40 billion to USD100 billion, the lowest in five years, i.e. money that could have been spent to pre-pay debts and thereby strengthen the national currency, and capital flight is in full swing, said Kadir, and the GST, and weak commodity prices are all playing havoc with the livelihood of the people. “All indications point to the contagion effects of 1MDB and a weak government.”
It was telling therefore that former MACC Deputy Chief Commissioner (Management and Professionalism) Zakaria Jaffar led some 100 staff members in seeking divine guidance and blessings, he said. “The MACC has been the target of intimidation for its unflinching investigation into the 1MDB affairs and the RM2.6 billion controversy.”
The fact is that nobody believes, continues Kadir, that the RM2.6 billion was from a wealthy Arab royal or a hugely successful camel trader. “There could be more than one, and not necessarily an Arab or a Muslim.”
The question that arises is whether it was legal for the Prime Minister to accept the nearly USD700 million (RM2.6 billion), and the present whereabouts of this money, he said. “Has all the RM2.6 billion been spent or has part of it been siphoned off and kept somewhere in one of the many offshore financial centres?”
“If the money had been divided among the 222 parliamentary seats, each would have received RM11.72 million.”
Kadir noted that Najib’s spin-doctors are flogging the lore that the money was used to fund Umno/Barisan Nasional (BN) for the 2013 General Election. “If indeed the mind-boggling sum was used to fund Umno/BN in 2013, would this be legal?”
