Reinstate 1MDB task force, PAC probe only way for Najib to save image, says Politweet

Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Razak should reinstate the 1Malaysia Development Bhd (1MDB) task force and the Public Accounts Committee (PAC) if he wishes to restore his battered image on social media, said Politweet.
The local social media research firm said it came to this conclusion based on Twitter users' opinion from March 1 to August 6, 2015.
"Twitter current user opinion on 1MDB and Najib is primarily divided into the following categories:
"2. Investigations must be transparent and perceived to be free from interest.
"3. Najib must step down as prime minister," said Politweet in a blog post today on its study of perceptions on 1MDB and Najib.
The social media monitor also suggested that the prime minister disclose the source of an RM2.6 billion donation and how the money was spent.
It said many users still believed the RM2.6 billion came from public funds and the misinformation turned a false allegation into a fact.
"This misrepresentation has helped to fuel rage against him. Whether this was intentional is unknown and Najib’s own defence did not help his position," it said.
Politweet also suggested that Najib expose the alleged conspiracy to topple him as prime minister and prove that the 1MDB documents sold by former PetroSaudi director Xavier Andre Justo were doctored.
But it said the lack of influence of Najib and 1MDB's supporters "means they cannot rely on official Twitter accounts to convince people of their side of the story".
Politweet also said issues which provoked the greatest response on Twitter were pilgrims' fund Tabung Haji’s purchase of 1MDB land in May; Najib's no-show at the #Nothing2Hide dialogue in June; and the exposes linking deposits into Najib's accounts in July.
Twitter users also responded to the July Cabinet reshuffle and dismissal of former deputy prime minister Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin, and the revelation that RM2.6 billion in Najib's accounts was a donation.
"Sentiment towards Najib has been affected by these events. Since March, we see a trend where the public become more convinced of the following beliefs through events that transpired and shared Twitter content.
"That Najib and the government is dishonest; that Najib is a coward; that Najib is corrupt and stupid; that Najib stole RM2.6 billion from the government; that Najib/1MDB have not answered the allegations," said Politweet.
Earlier, the survey found that distrust of Putrajaya in Twitter is so low because of the 1MDB scandal.
