BN MP: Najib doesn't need to pay tax on RM2.6b

Vijay47: Wow, this interpretation of our tax laws is a new one. Et tu, Shahrir Abdul Samad?

I thought you were one of the last decent ones standing in Umno but it looks like unfettered devotion to a leader like PM Najib Razak has addled your brains and roasted your self-respect.

Let us just analyse your take on donations. Liability on the donor would not arise, the amount donated would be allowable or not against his income.

For deductibility, two conditions apply here - the donation cannot exceed 10 percent of the donor's aggregate income, which in this case means that the kind folks who gave Najib the money had income of at least RM26 billion.

Secondly, the donation must be to an approved institution and by no stretch of the imagination can Bonny and Clyde be considered eligible even though they are living off the fat of the land.

Now to look at it from the recipient's point of view.

Scenario 1: Najib is a professional. Any amount received as reward for services rendered would constitute his professional or business income. It’s liable to tax. The only other question would be "Just what kind of service is Najib rendering foreigners?

Scenario 2: Najib is an employee. He being prime minister, this would be a reasonable conclusion. Here, Najib's fat bottom will be bitten by Section 13 which unkindly states that any amount earned in the exercise of employment would be taxable.

Ergo, Najib's ample goose is cooked any way you slice it. So what rubbish are you singing now, Shahrir?

The last I heard, the director-general of LHDN (Inland Revenue Board) is Mohd Shukor Mahfar, not Shahrir Samad. Oh, by the way, since Najib did not declare this income, he will also ‘kena’ a Section 113(2) penalty of 45 percent.

Total tax and penalty - RM980,200,000. Which of course is small change for the Divine Duo.

Anonymous_1421806811: I used to admire Shahrir when he stood up against Dr Mahathir Mohamad.

However, his current blind support for Najib makes me wonder whether he had sold his soul to the devil. Expecting a foreigner to pay taxes? No need to reveal source and let people speculate?
So can we speculate the donor is from Israel because they want to establish relations with Malaysia?

The Mask: "But I am unclear if political donations are exempted," said Shahrir.

If you are unclear, then shut up. What about the movement of large sums of money? Doesn’t Bank Negara have rules regarding this?

Political aide Teoh Beng Hock died for a meagre sum of RM2,400, and here we have RM2.6 billion.

You may be a fool but don’t take us as one. Really, at this age, you are a great disappointment. Maybe you are looking for a ministry’s post like all the other apple polishers.

Nobrain: Shahrir Samad, you are talking through your nose. The payment was received in the country. It was deposited into Najib's bank accounts.

It may be subject to income tax and it should also be investigated under the Anti–Money Laundering and Anti-Terrorism Financing Act.

Tailek: Shahrir, you and your Umno sycophants are such idiots and hypocrites. We are talking about a massive and unprecedented RM2.6 billion ‘donation’ here.

Whether Najib needs to pay tax is irrelevant. What is relevant is where the money came from, for what purpose and where it has now gone.

As to your hypocrisy, I can bet my last dollar if just RM260,000 was donated to DAP secretary-general Lim Guan Eng's personal bank account you would be shouting from the rooftop accusing him of corruption and conspiracy.

Perak Boleh: The next time when I am unable to disclose my source of income to cover my assets purchase, I will just say that it is donation from my ancestor clan from overseas.

BNBBC: Surely Bank Negara aware of RM2.6b

Real Truth: Shahrir, the authorities definitely knew something fishy was going on when huge amount was transferred into PM's personal accounts and they froze in their pants as it is a political culture of Umno not to interfere in PM's affairs as they know their gravy train will stop and they will sidelined and labelled as unfit and will be medically boarded out from their job. So the best policy is to keep silent.

Speaking Sense: If Shahrir has no knowledge of the RM2.6 billion, how does he know it is for Umno use?

It appears that every minister seems to have an answer for the money, except for the one who kept the money. The silence on that front is deafening.

J Ng: Shahrir must have suddenly realised that his political revival could be in the pipeline. However, his Q&A response in Utusan Malaysia made him look not only opportunistic but stupid.

If authorities were in the know, why waste time setting up the special task force? Even if donation was legitimate, the alleged used of 1MDB-related company to transmit the money out is still illegal. Shahrir needs to learn to be a smarter apologist.

Headhunter: The spin is getting worse and worse. But no matter how one looks at it, Najib has committed multiple offences, most of which a jail term is mandatory.

Had it been an opposition member, say DAP leader Lim Kit Siang, he would be rotting in jail for the rest of his life.

Clearwater: Shahrir, go get answers to these three simple questions. Who 'donated' the RM2.6 billion? Why put it into Najib's personal accounts? Where did the money go to? -Mkini
