SAY SORRY, CHURCH GROUP TELLS EDUCATION MINISTER WHO LINKED CHRISTIANS TO JEWS, SARAWAK REPORT

Hermen-Shastri
(Malay Mail Online) – Newly-minted Education Minister Datuk Seri Mahdzir Khalid owes Christian Malaysians an apology after accusing the minority faith group of being in cahoots with Jews and London-based whistleblower site Sarawak Report of an attempt to divide the Malay Muslim majority, the country’s largest Protestant Christian group said today.
In a strongly worded statement today, the Council of Churches of Malaysia (CCM) flayed the minister for his “misleading” and “obnoxious” remarks which he made while criticising the Sarawak Report (SR) which is run by Brit Clare Rewcastle Brown.
“First of all it is wrong to link us Christians with the Jews! Its highly misleading to even associate us with the Jews and worse still, to propose that we are in any way trying to split the Malays or any other group!” the group’s general secretary Rev Dr Hermen Shastri said today.
Hermen added the statement made by Mahadzir who was just elected a week ago, had “caused much anxiety amongst Christians and fair minded moderate Malaysians”, which he should immediately rectify by apologising.
“We therefore call upon the Minister to clarify his detrimental and divisive remarks and better still to apologise for making those obnoxious comments. He should not make false allegations as it is harmful and can be regarded as undermining national unity,” he said.
Mahadzir was reported warning Umno members yesterday not to believe SR as he claimed that it was propagating a Jewish and Christian agenda which looked towards “splitting the Malays”.
“The Jews and the Christians have pledged that as long as there is the moon and the stars, as long as the end of the world is not here yet, they will decide that Muhammad’s followers will be confused and split among themselves. This is the pledge of the Jews and Christians.
“And today, those who do things to us are not only from within the country, but from outside the country like Sarawak Report, which does not operate from Kuching,” he was quoted saying by The Malaysian Insider news portal during the opening of the Hulu Langat Umno division meeting.
SR and its editor Rewcastle-Brown have been under fire from various government agencies and politicians over it’s damning expose’s on 1Malaysia Development Berhad (1MDB), which include having its website being blocked.
Mahdzir was chosen as the new education minister by Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Razak in a sudden Cabinet reshuffle which saw the ousting of few leaders who have been vocal on the 1MDB fiasco including former deputy prime minister Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin and former rural and regional development minister Datuk Seri Shafie Apdal.
