Who gave RM200m to Mahathir?

An Umno website challenges the ex-PM to reveal the source of the funds.

PETALING JAYA: The Umno website MyKMU.net has challenged former prime minister Mahathir Mohamad to reveal the source of the RM200 million that he said he handed over to his successor Abdullah Ahmad Badawi.
“Once this question is answered,” said a MyKMU editorial today, “then the question of why Prime Minister Najib Razak received a political donation will also be answered. The difference in amounts is not important. The value of RM200 million is not the same today as it was 12 years ago.”
The writer was referring to disclosures Mahathir made in a blog posting on August 3.
He also asked why it was necessary to hand the funds to Abdullah instead of depositing them into the official Umno account.
In the case of Najib’s RM2.6 billion, he said, “at least the public knows that it came from a legitimate source. The Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commision (MACC) already knows the identity of Najib’s donors.”
He acknowledged that MACC had not disclosed to the public who the donors were, but he said this was because there was no law requiring it to do so.
“But the important thing is that the MACC knows,” he said.
“So what about the RM200 million in cash that Mahathir handed to Abdullah in 2003? Doesn’t Mahathir want an investigation into where the money came from, since the issue of political funding is so important to him?
“Umno members should be concerned about the source of this RM200 million. What if it was donated by a gambling taukeh?”
