PETALING JAYA - Datin Paduka Marina Mahathir was praised by netizens when she returned a gesture of kindness after someone decided to pay for her meal anonymously.
The prominent social activist said someone had paid for her meal when she had lunch at a restaurant on Friday.
"Yesterday someone decided to pay for my lunch anonymously. Whoever it was, if you're reading this, thank you very much for this little kindness."
"But I am really not the one whose lunch you should pay for. There are lots of hungry people out there more deserving than me," Marina wrote on her Facebook.
She then decided to give back to the community by donating RM253.00 to the Food Aid Foundation.
"So in order to honour your kind gesture, I have decided to donate some money to an organisation that helps the hungry, Food Aid Foundation. Your generosity yesterday will now help a few more people. Thank you again," Marina said.
In the posting, Marina also shared a picture of a bill from Nutmeg, a restaurant in Bangsar Village II, for a serving of 'roasted pumpkin salad' and 'warm water' totalling RM25.30.
Marina also posted the acknowledgement of her bank transfer to the Food Aid Foundation for a sum of RM253.00.
Her posting received about 10,000 likes and 400 shares on Facebook.
