Without Mukhriz, sponsors losing confidence in Kedah football?

The Kedah political crisis which saw state Umno deputy chief Ahmad Bashah Md Hanipah being installed as the new menteri besar appears to have affected the state’s football team, with potential sponsors losing confidence in the new leadership.
A source told Malaysiakini that following former Kedah menteri besar Mukhriz Mahathir’s resignation as Kedah Football Association (KFA) president, it is believed that local cosmetic giant D’Herbs Holdings Sdn Bhd has withdrawn its plans to sponsor the team.
The source said the decision was made following Mukhriz’s resignation as KFA president.
Mukhriz had stepped down from the post after he was ousted as menteri besar and replaced by Ahmad Bashah earlier this week, who also takes over as KFA president.
“The decision to withdraw from sponsoring the Kedah football team was made after Mukhriz is no longer KFA president. So maybe they (D’Herbs) have lost confidence to proceed as a sponsor,” the source said.
Last month, D’Herbs through its managing director Aliff Syukri Kamarzaman had met with Mukhriz to discuss sponsorship plans for the ‘Red Eagle’ squad.
Further discussions, however, had stalled after Mukhriz was embroiled in the state political crisis which led to his resignation as menteri besar and KFA president.
Aside from D’Herbs, the source added that another company that had previously expressed intentions to sponsor the team’s official bus had also cancelled its plans.
“One by one, the sponsors are cancelling their plans. I do not know what will happen after this,” said the source, who is a staunch supporter of the team.
When contacted, Aliff Syukri who is overseas confirmed the matter with Malaysiakini. "Yes, I have cancelled (the plan)," he said briefly through Whatsapp. -Mkini
