KUALA LUMPUR: The Cabinet is discussing ways to resolve interfaith child custody conflicts between parents who were Muslim and non-Muslim, Prime Minister Najib Razak revealed today.
“But some of the measures involves consultation with all the Rulers so it will take a bit of time,” Najib explained.
Najib’s remarks, after opening a Labour Day event at Putra World Trade Centre today, were in reference to the controversy involving kindergarten teacher Indira Ghandi and her former husband who converted to Islam as Muhammad Riduan Abdullah. They have locked horns for the custody of their youngest child.
On Friday, The Federal Court had ordered the police to arrest Muhammad Riduan.
Indira however said that the battle to get her youngest daughter back is far from over.
The 41-year-old single mother is worried that Muhammad Riduan will abscond overseas with their child Prasana Diksa, 8, who she believes is still with him.
“I want to see my baby. I last heard that she was at Kota Baru, Kelantan, in 2014. He is supposed to return my daughter,” she had said.
